body  positivity

I hold this section of my blog very close to my heart. It seems that "body positivity" has turned into such a buzzword these days, but for many of us women this concept means so much more than just a trendy hashtag on Instagram.

Body positivity is something that I had no concept of growing up. I was raised believing that being thin was what made you beautiful. The less you weighed, the more attractive you were! Right??? Wrong. Growing up, I struggled to accept my body as it was while I was developing into my "womanly" figure. The other girls my age were lean + rocked short-shorts + bikinis during summer, while at the same time I was looking in the mirror picking a part my thick thighs + stretch marks. I dreaded summer + constantly felt like I was being judged. There were times when I was bullied as well.

Despite all of this negative conversation surrounding my body, my confidence grew. It grew slowly, but it grew. Brands began showcasing models of different shapes and sizes + I began practicing self-love (showing appreciation for my healthy, strong body rather than shaming it for being unique).

Body positivity is a mindset that can take years to adopt. It took me several to fully embrace a lifestyle where I love every inch of myself. With that being said, I encourage you to start your own journey into a "body positive" life + to follow my journey along as well!
